read this far in one sitting. this book moves me so much. whoever decided to market it as romance or romantasy needs to d*e though because this is a story about doomed royal siblings and romantic tragedy!!!! i wish i didn't have adult responsibilities so i could have uninterrupted reading 😔

time jumps that don't feel jarring... such skillfull writing. had to pause though bc it has a section set in china during ww2 and i always need to emotionally prepare to read anything involving that. a heaviness i've never quite learned to bear

whoever decided to market this as no more than rom-com is doing it a disservice? it’s not quite romance, but leagues away from litfic. it is interesting though, and i’m real curious as to what emily henry is trying to do with the change from her usual format

this is such a sublime summer book. i don't even mind that i'm reading this in winter when i live in the tropics lol everything about the english summer depicted here is lush

rosario's section is definitely my fave. the attention to minute, sensory details felt heightened in her narration and there was finally a more interior look into the Order

attention span is cooperating and the plot beat’s picking up too yayyyy really want to finish this before nov ends

the change in writing rhythm and voice per section of the book is so interesting but gaspar’s chapters are a little muddy to me… just hope it has payoff in the latter half lol

not a fan of flashback chapters but anything for misaki, i suppose... and the technical choice to have dialogue in italics to signal the use of the more common language is throwing me off a bit :/ still looking forward to where the story is taking me tho

can't get enough of these stories so far. isabel yap's writing voice is cutting, tender, and expressive all at once. and her probing into speculative topics is so, so interesting, especially in the context of filipino culture and society. i'm so obsessed rn

only a few pages in but i’m already reeling from how human connection is being portrayed in the story. really interesting and heartfelt :0

i can’t get enough of the lyricism in the way these short stories are written omg… wish i had more time to sit down and read more in one sitting but uni 🥲 but i also realized that i can include this novel in the poetics of my thesis because it’s timely for this essay i’m writing for my manuscript … my win <3

the prose in this is unexpectedly lively and so far accurate to the ~creative writing academic~ experience it makes me want to laugh and then gag. maybe both at the same time. but all coming from a place of hilarity.
