Graphic novels seem to me to be a violation of the Second Commandment against the making of graven images, not so much in that they are graphic art but in that they capture one's imagination and lead the reader/viewer into a virtual world apart from God. I think it's that virtual world that captures one's imagination, and perhaps loves and loyalties, that is the essence of the intent behind God's prohibition.
