Dan Seitz is on page 137 of 527 of The Future Is History: How Totalitarianism Reclaimed Russia
I have to admit, I had no idea just how bad Communist Russia really was. Like, I knew it was bad, but to discover those hyperbolic Cold Warriors weren't entirely full of shit (like they were about everything else) is a bit of a jolt.

Less impressive than it sounds; I've been on an airplane a lot the last few days and this is a page-turner.

Expecting aliens? Don't. This is all about flight tests, nuclear weapons tests, and political backstabbing, and I kinda love it.

Pretty fascinating book if you only know Orwell from his classics.

Oh great, Goodreads somehow has my old Yahoo! email that no longer works instead of the email address I do have. Ugh.

Had some Goodreads app drama so I'll be updating exclusively through the site until I figure it out. Fortunately there's no shortage of interesting reading here, albeit it's a little dry.

Kudos where it's due, there's an entire chapter about how the sport of fencing let fascists corrupt it, albeit this book is getting more scattershot as it goes along.

The history of swordplay is unsurprisingly also a pretty good history of human pettiness, bullying, and dickishness.

I'm glad I read "The Sleepwalkers" before I read this, because it really throws what a bunch of entitled twerps the British and French were into rather sharp relief. "We defended you from Germany!" No, you started a war over what should have been a law enforcement/diplomatic matter. Stop whining.

"How dare you demand we pay back the money we borrowed to fight a war we shouldn't have started." - Basically Britain's position.

A book about economists that hasn't even gotten to the financial disaster it's supposedly about should not be nearly this compelling.

The most compelling case made so far is Sickert was a petty little bully, not the Ripper.

The paper evidence isn't as compelling as Cornwell thinks.
