I am about half way through and it is really sweet and cute but also oh-so very SLOW. I have to expect some drama to go down in the second half of this book

Currently on book 4!

I have such mixed feelings about this book. Overall I enjoyed it but there are a few events that bothered me. I can't figure out if the problem is with me or the book itself though. Ugh. It might take me a while to write a review.

The beginning was a little rough. But so far it reads like a cross between a Hallmark movie and a Rom-Con. But with vampires.

It's fine so far. I feel like not much has happened though? And I'm not super pumped for the romance. I just don't sense the chemistry?

What about the ghost bartender Verity promised to go on a date with?? I figured he would pop up sometime and cause trouble. Is he just forgotten? Or is he supposed to come into play in another book?

I knew their whole fight would end in Verity not changing anything and Ellis having to make the most adjustments. And he didn't even do much.

“And you’ve got to start treating the law like the law, and not like a set of guidelines.” “I’ll work on that,” I promised. Although, Frankie wasn’t the best influence."

So all Verity has to change is that she follows the Law more? She's been B&E-ing since the first book. It's literally the only law she really breaks. And she wants to blame it on Frankie??

Verity feels very unwilling to compromise. With both Frankie and Ellis. Her whole 'this is who i am so deal with it' attitude is starting to annoy me. She wants Ellis to make all the compromise and not have to change anything. I like that we are seeing growth in their relationship but i feel like this is going to 'resolve' and shes not going to have made any real changes.

"Frankie glided straight at me as if I were tap-dancing on his last nerve. “I am going to die—again—unless you shut it.”"

How is she so oblivious to the fact he is trying to warn her that other ghosts are there without outright stating it? You would think that by now she could read him. Verity is somehow both clueless and confident. It boggles my mind.

"Living with me had separated him from the old gang. He couldn’t carouse unless I sat on a bench outside knitting. He couldn’t go on runs to Chicago unless I drove him, which was one thing I refused to do."


Why does she always refuse to do things for him? He's literally trapped at her house. Verity's character has started to annoy me during the last few books in regards to how she treats Frankie.

Surprise, surprise! Talking to your lovers ex as a way to get to know your partner backfired. Shocking!

"It was time to learn more about Jasmine, and his best source of information was Josh. Actually, Jasmine should be the one to reveal everything, but Rafe didn’t have time to get to know her, not if he wanted to gain her trust before the next time it was tested."

Or you could just talk to the girl and get to know her instead of talking to her ex..you know, like a normal person?

"Gender equality didn’t exist in the shifter world."

Why the fuck not? There is literally no reason for it not too. It doesn't add anything to the story except making the female characters act weak.

“I freaked out when I realized Rafe was a shifter. I couldn’t risk my boys.” He flicked his gaze to her. “And you’re willing to risk them now?”

FINALLY SOMEONE HAS SOME GOD DAMNED SENSE AROUND HERE!

Oh so NOW you remember you have kids you are trying to protect.

"That he asked her instead of taking what he wanted floored her, leaving her in a state of awe."

Yeah, consent is sexy like that.

"He added a second finger, and her womb quivered."

I'm sorry, her what?

I don't know if I can finish this book. The female lead is driving me crazy. Shes a single mom with two kids and is supposed to be very protective of them and yet she lets this guy she just met the night before send his brother (whom she has never met) to watch her kids from the woods of their house while she goes and has sex with said guy she just met.

What?

The Kodama are adorable.
