This is not what I expected, but I am enjoying it. I like that it follows an older woman, a much underrepresented character type, especially in journey tales.
More importantly, I should have realized it was an homage to Lovecraft and MAYBE have read his Dream-Quest first? 🤷🏻‍♀️

It pains me to say this but I might DNF this. I LOVE her! But she's so normal it makes it boring, ya know? Barack is running for president so maybe things will take off. I might leave this as my non-fic until I can close it out, (aka, before bed read so I can't get sucked in and stay up too late).

It's probably indicative of my place in time that as I near the final "Modern Age" section, the art resonates with me more. Not that I wasn't deeply impressed with the skills and works of earlier ages. But more recent pieces have a greater emotional entanglement -- precisely as Symbolism intends!

Baroque to Neoclassicism (Rococo in there). This included more parts of the world, (France, The Netherlands, Germany, Spain, etc) though Italy remains a powerhouse. An unintentional but interesting dip into history via artistic movements.

19th century next!

Renaissance and Mannerism -- incredible. An epiphany in style and subtle messaging, especially given the yoke of political patrons

Through 'Ancient and Medieval' -- religion, religion, religion

Looking forward to 'Renaissance and Mannerism'.

This book is so highly rated and apparently won some awards but I.AM.STRUGGLING. It's like things are happening but in the slowest way possible? And I'm trying my "1 Ch a night" tactic but some chapters are only a couple pages and it's 662 in totum 🙄😬 #myWHOLE2023read
