Tau’s skull is so thick that when he dies it will be placed in a museum as an anomaly amongst impermeable materials.

Tau is the definition of hotheaded and uncontrolled.

Malta deserves everything that’s coming to her and more. Shallower than her father, stupider than her mother, more spoiled than anyone else in the family. All of it makes for an absolutely intolerable human being.

Wintrow is winning me over, his conversations with Kyle are a pretty entertaining when he refuses to cave to his father’s bullying. Enjoyable when I can stop thinking about how much I want Kyle to go die in a fire.

Problematic for a parent to turn to a child for emotional support and validation.

Why does Diana live on beating-a-dead-horse avenue?

It was really difficult to limit myself to a single word for Kyle.

The Vestrits could solve so many of their problems by killing Kyle

This book is stressful 😅

Horrified by how plausible the sociopolitical narrative is

Keeps getting more convoluted and I’m worried that things are happening now that we won’t understand until the second or third book.

Getting kind of annoyed with the narrative structure.

Some crazy things have happened that Violet has just ignored or shrugged off. Either explanations are forthcoming or we’ve got some classic YA what-the-fuckery.

Only at 6% and I’m ready to propose marriage to this book. Utterly charmed.

Things aren’t looking good for me. I was already a bit lost in the world building before the break, and now I’m really struggling.

Finally got it back from the library. Unfortunately, in the months since I last read this, I’ve forgotten most of the details conveyed in the first third. Hopefully they aren’t too important 😬
