Nichole is on page 15 of 128 of Lion Cross Point
Ono’s language is breath taking. His metaphors and perspective set the mind and heart aflame with beauty and profundity. And that’s just 15 pages in.

Slater's darkly funny in this one. Don't feel like I should be laughing but can't help it.

A page turner. At times funny, at times awesome in its flights of imagination. So far it reads at a good clip. Don't want to put it down.

One of the most finely written and evocative stories I've ever read. Didn't want to put it down, felt myself present on every page. A testimonial tot he ebbs and floes of faith and a searing look at the role government and churches try to play in that faith.

Not halfway through the book and am champing at the bit to get back to it. Kind of Orwellian in a sense that I'm applying the story to the U.S.-- not as the recipient of refugees but as refugees ourselves.

One of the most compelling books I've read. Worked on so many levels from storytelling to language and from colonial history to humanity and the human condition. If I taught almost ANYTHING to do with literature I'd teach this book. It'll definitely be one to re-read periodically and will be recommended to any world lit lover.

One of the worst books to hit the 'popular' shelves in years. The editor must have been having a helluva bad year.

Mia Couto's books should be taught in every high school literature department. His universal messages of gender and politics and history should be studied in university English departments. Every writer should study his oeuvre to improve her lyricism, storytelling, pace, perspective, and dynamics. Absolutely incredible.

Swoon-worthy prose. Mesmerizing blend of magic, nature, and sexism. And such a compelling manner of writing about love even this misanthrope's heart has leapt toward romance.

I did NOT want this book to end, savored every page, never skimmed, sometimes cried at the beauty, often reveled in Hamid's refreshing honest, cherished his publisher's (Mariner Press) audacity. Read well. Read colorfully. Read the Reluctant Fundamentalist.

Please read this. Its satire is funny but because of its setting, Pakistan, it's also educational in terms of learning more about the concept of man/woman and non-Muslim religious expression.
