I’m enjoying the pace of this book so far. The main character feels distant enough to be mysterious while also being complex enough to never know which way the story will go.

The sorrow and the darkness are palpable for me so far. Orange is doing a good job of spelling out how much trauma has been passed down in the Native communities as well as how harrowing surviving with a broken spirit can be.
