This is really good but also so heavy, i fear it will take me a while to get through

of the three books in this trilogy, I was hoping this one would be the strongest. however I am finding myself rather disappointed

you know what, i actually take back my earlier complaints. the female characters aren't written any more two dimensional than some of the male characters come off, and the plot is interesting enough that i am very engaged. and overall for all it's similarities to Red Rising...it's way better and better written.

I am so compelled by the worldbuilding and plot of this book, but it is so irksome that of the three female characters who appear in this series, two of them are portrayed as untrustworthy liars (emissa and the wife, forgive me i don't remember the name off the top of my head--if anything it goes to show how few women are actually in this series) and the third is basically a plot device. boooo white men fantasy

oh my god i do not want to set this down this is the best fantasy i've read in AGES

i've allegedly read this before according to Goodreads but for the life of me i do not remember. however even just this first bit is so visceral
