Just finished the first story as part of our book club assignment, and it was quite good! Very, very, dark, but as usual some really vivid imagery and character development that builds a world beyond the 16 or so pages. Thank you, James!

This book is crazy. I switch between thinking its a mind-blowing masterpiece and hating it so much. This book is unlike anything I have read before, and I am hooked. The last chapter really took me by surprise

Its been a very long time since I have stayed up till 3 in the morning reading. The book has begun to hook me

This book has such a strange undercurrent of misogyny throughout that makes it sort of uncomfortable to read. I wonder if there is a point to it that will be uncovered when I finish reading. If not, I understand why I DNF'd a few years ago

There are moments in Baldwin's books that can only be accomplished through his deep characterization. The people in his novels feel real, the world and situations they are in are so vivid and the payoff is incredible.

First few poems weren't grabbing me but now I'm in. Some really great ones in this section
