Powers can be frustrating. Especially when the subject matter he is working with was mined extremely well in the past by another writer. In this case, Michael Marshal Smith, who wrote what I feel is a far superior novel, "The Intruders" back in 2007.
Powers has always been what I consider an emotionally cool writer, more concerned with plot than convincing characters. The seams show. And they shouldn't.
