I checked my Goodreads reading challenge and was shocked to discover how many books I had read this year. I really didn't think I was reading more than normal this year.

Turns out Goodreads also counts my Kindle books. That means a lot of books were double-counted, and some books I never finished were counted.

I don't care much about the reading challenge, but I really thought it might count my books correctly.

I wish I understood the worldbuilding/backstory better

Make it make sense. In this world, the magic users are more powerful than non-magic users and therefore the non-magical impose... magical restrictions on the magic users. How

Magic users are tested, if their magic is too weak, it is stripped away. Why strip away the WEAK magic if you are afraid of magic?

Magic users are feared, those who have had it stripped are feared most of all. WHY

Why do I read fantasy anyway

And..... there it is. The soul-sucking world-destroying evil force has begun to stir.

Epics.

Only one chapter in but I'm excited about this book! Honestly, if the author just continues at the same level, it'll be excellent.

Just as I had begun to doubt my belief that Thea is a fool... she proves that I knew better after all

I simply cannot buy into the premise of this book.

The Fae come every year to take a young girl to be their queen for that year, but after the year the girl will never be seen again.

Why does everyone WANT this? She loses all her family and friends.

Also, this is a small-ish island community that doesn't seem to welcome newcomers. How are there any girls left?

So many pages. So few things have happened.

I was enjoying the characters, and the story-with-a-story design

And then the voice in her head added a whole new level of banter and snark

I need to read something cozy after this. COZY! And light and comforting and most definitely something that Does Not Bend Reality.

First sentence: I decided that Orion needed to die after the second time he saved my life.

Okay, perhaps it isn't one of the top first sentences of all time, but it certainly captured my attention and caused me to think, "I think I may enjoy this book"
