Ellen is reading Monticello: A Daughter and Her Father
I just finished Monticello: A Daughter and Her Father; A Novel with significant onsite into the family. Yes, much of it is fiction but it remains through the letters a possible look into real humans not just historical figures!

Ellen is reading Disgrace
I just finished Disgrace: A Novel. I'm not sure I can say that I enjoyed this book. It was shockingly depressing and confusing. Beautifully written with excellent descriptive language. At times quite painful. There seems to be no resolution for any of the characters but just to go on.

Ellen is finished with The Passion of Artemisia
Some interesting passages. Cultural and historical. Looking at life of a woman during those times.

I didn't love it! I found it to be very uneven in it's approach. The opening was compelling but then it became like a romance novel. Too wordy in the descriptions. Almost too sentimental. The ending was as good as the beginning.

Ellen is reading The Secret River
I just finished The Secret River. Impressive to say the least. I loved the way the book evolved without begging for sympathy. Will, Sal and the rest took circumstances and lived without overt judgement. Met by lifes circumstances they simply lived until driven by one persons dream. Wills' cogitations, what were they, guilt or just remembrances?

Ellen is reading Bound (Satucket #2)
I just finished Bound. Second in the very well researched stories of pre independent Massachusetts Colony. The characters were in turn noble and flawed. Historically correct yet sympathetic or caught up in the very restrictive life demanded by church and law. It was as the previous book a combination of education and a personal story. Enjoy
