Are we really not going to talk about how he tried to pay off her sister behind her back. Talk about going from one controlling dude to another.

You know for a book where the heroine organizes her comic books by how much they have been influenced by third wave feminism, two out of three of the main female characters are depicted as jealous evil bitches.

Back to this. Every line in this book is beautiful but it's not indulgent. I've never been a Cromwell stan though.

This book has been mostly reasonable and self aware, but Jesus do we really need another "catty pretty girl makes comments about the main character's appearance" scene. Seriously this white girl with hourglass figure self doubt is hilarious.

"Burning me with mortification like Sherman burned Atlanta" is a great line.

Okay so a lot of ludicrous/borderline questionable things have happened, but they are actually addressed. I'm kind of in awe. (Still think the word slamp is a suppperrr questionable euphemism though.)

Okay so parts of this book are really charming, but on the other hand it's like "oh this is going to be another one of those fucking clueless virginal young woman meets a CEO" plots

This is turning into "conventionally attractive white woman moans about how she's not beautiful" and ain't nobody got time for that. But maybe the controlling/abusive ex boyfriend might be the saving grace once it's addressed.

I'm not sure what bothers me more, the fact that her "amazing" shoe closest actually sounds tacky as fuck, or the fact that the hero just implied that a bunch of women were sluts just because they were clubbing and the heroine was ~not like that~

This is a little more pastel than what I usually read, but it was free on Amazon and did you know that the Internet is terrible in China? Every site that is not Chinese is either blocked or slow.

Maybe the question is: why would each one of them have wanted to kill her? I'm not in a hurry to get there though.

The ending short story is great though.

I guess we're progressive enough for matriarchs, but not progressive enough that waiting until after marriage is the "right thing" (at least for the woman)

I don't understand why academics are important to the military.... as strategists? Feelings like reaching though, especially since the organization was never clearly explained.

The political complexities are interesting, but the villains are so... cartoonishly one dimensional. I cannot decide if this is a smart book or a silly one.

To be honest, the see sawing Alison's character does when romance comes up is giving me vertigo.

I didn't think this book would actually give someone a motive. Money's still on Moran though, isn't the point of the murder mystery that it's the person you least expect? But then this isn't that kind of novel.
