Nope. I tried. I really did. It’s TERRIBLE. And I read a lot of terrible things! But it’s more than terrible. It’s repetitive and not very clever at all and no one is interesting and I don’t care about anyone because they are not characters at all but just names! I need to STOP with Patterson books. TBF I was going to, but then a book club picked this. Bad decision.

This is great history of baseball and Oakland, and of Black players in the MLB as well as Rickey.

I was not expecting a decent chunk to be devoted to the city of Oakland that produced Rickey, but I am so glad it did because Oakland gets a crap reputation but it was truly a thriving and vibrant city. A last stop for the Great Migration, and yet with its own unofficial redlining.

And . . . I’ve stopped reading. Maybe I’m just not in the mindset for this yet, but I forgot that I’m just not a huge fan of her writing. Love the premise. Maybe I’ll pick it up again

Relating to the main character quite a bit.

Shouldn’t have started this before bed!

DNF. I don’t know what I thought this would be, but it definitely wasn’t the beginning. I realized life is too short to waste on books I really don’t like. Unlikeable main character that I really just didn’t care if she ever redeemed herself.

Reading so. Slow. Because I don’t want it to end!! Hava!!!!

This was kind of a struggle. Weirdly I kept thinking about the Criminal Minds episode that was loosely based on her. It wasn’t written very well, and it was kind of overwhelmingly just sad to read.

Took a while for me to get into, finished on audiobook. Now I need the next one!
