I was unsure about this… what does one do upon learning that an author did terrible things? I never read Alice Munro. The horrifying story of her treatment of her daughter in light of her husband’s abuse of her… well it certainly doesn’t make me want to read her more. But a story in this collection paralleled her daughter’s experience, I hear, and I am hoping to find an apology between the lines, I guess.

Oh dear. The author expects grace about her situation but refuses it to anyone else. Her caustic and condescending descriptions of people’s homes (She “keeps thinking” that they will try to be a little neater! And don’t get me started on her disgust about a bottle of lube on a nightstand. Good lord). It has an inauthentic ring. No thanks.

Lord this is pretty dry stuff, although so far there's been one moderately funny pun . I'm determined to finish, nonetheless.
