I had no idea that this was a retelling of Aladdin. I also didn't realize how much murder there was and we all just pretended like it didn't happen. The murder stuff was just so unrealistic so I definitely deducted stars for that. Since it is a Disney story retelling and it was so dark I just couldn't like it. I'm not saying the book had to be all sunshine and rainbows but it just didn't work for me.
