very long, run on sentences that make the book less enjoyable/tedious

1/3 of the way in and its not enjoyable and hasn't really been enjoyable the entire time. I don't mind the premise for the book but wow the main character unlikable. Shes very whiney and entitled. According to other people's reviews she does get better but when? An average plot mixed with an extremely unlikable maim character

Currently no one is likeable. I'm finding her exposition very tedious, I just don't like tangents in the middle of dialogue.

I feel a bit meh with the enemies to lovers theme, I know this is an OG of the trope but Mr Darcy dislikes her for one ball, finds her hot in the second one and then he's full keenbeans when's she's sweaty and muddy, where's the enemies?

(I've watched the good movie, Keira Knightley obviously, so I know the jist of the story but at the mo, meh)

I did not expect the writing to be so succinct and cutting. I did however expect to have to reread alot of it because at first pass it flys over my head.

Only on chapter 3, wow what a way to start a book.

I've not read any reviews yet I'm wondering if being a POC allows me to be more easily absorbed into the story, I can easily picture her cadence when she speaks, understand the words she chooses. Is this a possible hindrance others are having? Just a thought that pops up when I look at the low rating of the book overall.

I like that it mocks alot "everything happens for a reason".

Current thoughts, the writing is obviously good, it's a classic what I'm confused about is why the story is liked/popular? It seems juvenile/obvious. Do I only think this because I've read many stories following this storyline of terrible shit constantly happening? Have I read many because many were influenced in some way by this book, it being super old?

Idk, I'll see how it ends and adjust from there.

Why is every character that is named Elena super annoying?

Writing is pretty bad, you know what is going to happen in the whole story from around the 3rd chapter. alot of info dumping convos.

Good story, just wish it was written by someone who had faith in peoples ability to figure out stuff on their own.

audiobook narrator is pretty bad, could have done without the racist depiction of asian characters.
