This is a page turner! I have a hard time imagining what everyone looks like. There’s 2 TV versions of this. Australian and American with Uma Thurman. Who does Uma play? I’m guessing Rosie

An Illustrated Theory of Numbers
For any odd prime p, there are p-1 coprime integers (1 to p-1). Exactly half of these will be quadratic residues mod p. In the previous example where p is 11, there are 10 coprime integers - 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 - of which exactly 5 are quadratic residues. (1, 3, 4, 5, 9)
We're assembling the modular worlds.. the shadows of the integers

An Illustrated Theory of Numbers
I've made it to quadratic residues, but the going is getting difficult. No fault of the book though. I feel like this is really as accessible as it can get. Just have to put the time in.
Quadratic residues mod 11 are 1, 3, 4, 5, 9:
1^2 = 1 mod 11
2^2 = 4 mod 11
3^2 = 9 mod 11
4^2 = 5 mod 11
5^2 = 4 mod 11
6^2 = 3 mod 11
7^2 = 5 mod 11
8^2 = 9 mod 11
9^2 = 4 mod 11
10^2 = 1 mod 11

Game Changer: AlphaZero's Groundbreaking Chess Strategies and the Promise of AI
AlphaZero seems to have the best of both worlds. It exhibits the machine's ability to calculate accurately and deeply at a superhuman level. It also shows the human ability to steer the game into a position that looks generally promising without needing to calculate all the way to checkmate.

Game Changer: AlphaZero's Groundbreaking Chess Strategies and the Promise of AI
Quite fascinating so far. They think AlphaZero plays sharper checkmate-forcing lines to avoid tricky tactical endgames where there's only one winning variation (the kind of thing at which Stockfish excels). Basically AlphaZero plays in a way that keeps as many options open as possible. Hard to summarize but pretty interesting. If you're into this kind of thing :)

A Mind at Play: How Claude Shannon Invented the Information Age
In a life of pursuits adopted and discarded with the ebb and flow of Shannon's promiscuous curiosity, chess remained one of his few lifelong pastimes. One story has it that Shannon played so much chess at Bell Labs that “at least one supervisor became somewhat worried.”

The Disaster Artist: My Life Inside The Room, the Greatest Bad Movie Ever Made
Rereading this. Now that the movie's coming out, it's easier for me to imagine the scenes from this book as I'm reading, which makes it much funnier. I've been laughing out loud. Can't wait to see Franco's take! A lot of the stuff in the trailer is taken more or less directly from the book.

The Kingdom of Happiness: Inside Tony Hsieh's Zapponian Utopia
"Zappos was supposed to be done with its migration into Amazon's systems by now. The original goal was 2015, then Q1 2016, and now the date was put into later 2016. Supercloud has led Zappos to lose a lot of its tech talent, and it has delayed innovation. The company hasn't updated its website significantly in nearly a decade."
GR folks-- 'Supercloud' was Zappos version of 'Move to Prod'

30 pages in and I'm already incredibly annoyed by this book's glib hagiographic tone. The level of oblivious privilege is off the charts. Reading on in hopes of some juicy dirt or some kind of interesting truth about vegas and or hseih. If I wasn't from vegas and interested in the downtown container park, I would have already tossed this.
