The german translation of this book is so painfully awkward to read.

OKAY. SO. I was RIGHT about the reveal that I called on page 271 for no reason besides "this is a bog-standard and predictable twist, so I guess that's what's going to happen".
But this book did surprise me in its last 20 pages. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't out of nowhere, all the pieces were there - and ultimately, this is also what I thought SHOULD happen, but for some reason I didn't think it actually would.

Hmm. I have my suspicions about how a big reveal might play out.
I really have no reason to believe that this is what's going to happen, but seeing as this book has been pretty predictable so far I'm actually feeling somewhat confident.

50 pages in and my tentative review at this point is basically "yep, this is a YA novel". I'm not complaining though.

This reads exactly like fanfiction. Not a very good one.

I'm interested enough to see where this is going, but everything is just so very *convenient*. Our protagonist is the bestest in everything she does, and I'm just going to have to trust the book's repeated insistence on this because I haven't really seen her DO anything except snark at people in situations where she really really shouldn't.

Our main character instantly lashes out the second someone with authority says something she disagrees with. And I'm supposed to believe she's had extensive military training and is used to working with crime bosses? You were hired to do a job, not to snark at and antagonize people who clearly hold more power than you! She's such a brat.

If you want to get a character across as intimidating, maybe don't have them "murmur" a correction on their position.
Also, there's nano-tech that seems to keep you perpetually young-looking, and it makes the 40-something main character look like she's in her twenties. Uh-huh. I can sense some major fuckery coming my way.

I'm so very tired of seeing the word "g*psy". You could've just said nomad, or any other sensible word.
Also, that Bernard guy. I already hate him, okay? He's an asshole, I get it, you've made that abundantly clear. There was absolutely no need to also make him drop slurs every other page.

I'm really enjoying this so far!
But my goodness there's approximately a metric fuckton of characters, and I'm not great with names to begin with. So glad there's a family tree on page one, because without it I'd be hopelessly lost.

I was so into this story but the festival just absolutely killed it for me. You're still on the run for fucks sake! You still have a deadline to keep!! Why are we suddenly dealing with teenage romance drama bullshit instead of that!!!

I skipped 15 pages. No regrets.

If you have a party instead of focusing on the plot, then I guess the plot just has to find you, so what can I say except That's What You Fucking Get.

I seriously need to start reading exclusively books that don't have any romance in it at all because my god this is annoying me so much.

Also can the characters please decide if a journey is "almost impossible to even make within that timeframe" or if they have the time to fuck about to throw a party and STILL be ahead of schedule. I have no idea when or where they're supposed to have gained all this spare time.
