Wow. Just the prologue and I'm already a bit overwhelmed by the intensity of the threat in this story. This conclusion is going to break me.

Nope nope nope nope nope. I tried so hard to stick to this, since its such a short book, but omg no, not for me. Too sex focused. Finally giving in and hard DNFing this.

Perhaps the author isn't racist or homophobic, but the vibes felt off enough for me to second guess, and I will not be continuing for this reason.

Made it 23% into this book while mostly enjoying the progression of the story and the writing. However there were a few instances wherein race and sexuality were mentioned in a way that felt offensive and ...conservative. as a queer woman of color it left me uncomfortable and although I ignored it at first and continued on, I will now be DNFing due to this.

I understand dehumanization is the point... but I hate it.

This is so interesting. I understand the concept and the thought behind the storytelling and yet it's still rather... not shocking in it's execution (pun intended) but in the neutrality in which it's told. There's a lot to be said and I sincerely hope that in the future this can be a book students read in school and analyze. I would be curious to read an academic paper on this one.

I need so much more hand-holding tension in romance books!! Honestly better than any other physical intimacy 👌🏽✨️
