Josh G is finished with The Ship of the Dead (Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard, #3)
Magnus Chase and his friends have set out to confront Loki, the god of mischief. Loki captures a ship known as The Ship of the Dead, and Magnus travels there after acquiring a special potion to make him a silver-tongued scholar. Magnus unleashes his inner passion for his friends and out-words Loki. My opinion about this is that Magnus is meant to motivate his friends. He beat Loki by speaking passionately for them.

Michael’s cover was blown and he needed to save a Jewish scientist from assassination. Michael had to make a choice, kill his best friend, or save the scientist who could turn the tide of the war. The choice was made for him when his friend fell of a cable car. The most important word here is “over.” This was the word Michael used when his friend died. He realized this is eventually the fate of all living things.

Michael O’Shaunessey is a part of the Hitler Youth. As far as everyone else is concerned, at least. He and his parents are spies trying to find information and Projekt 1065, the designs of a new jet plane for the Nazis. My favorite character is Simon, an English pilot that Michael rescued. This is because he is humorous, smart, and he always knows what to say in a situation.

Josh G is finished with From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler
At the end, Jamie and Claudia are willingly brought home. But not before Mrs. Frankweiler created a deep connection with them. They love her so much that they adopt her as a grandmother. Honestly, the title doesn’t make a lot of sense. Mrs. Frankweiler clearly states that she doesn’t want her files messed up or placed out of order. Maybe From the Organized Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler.

(Update 4/15/18) Claudia Kincaid wants to run away. She has just had it! However, she does it cleverly, and decides to bring along her favorite brother. This favorite brother, Jamie, also happens to be the richest of his fellow brothers. His total when they run away is almost $25, which is a lot of money in the late 60’s. A conflict in this section of the book is how the two children decide to spend their money.

Josh G is finished with Prisoner B-3087
Yanek Gruener has endured so much pain. He was taken from Kraków, his home turned ghetto. He went through 10 concentration camps, and several death marches. But after seemingly interminable years, he was rescued by the Allies. I can connect to this because people from my family were killed in the Holocaust. Members of my family also endured what Yanek Gruener did. Only some didn’t survive.

Josh G is finished with Grenade
This is the end of the book. Hideki has fled the battle. Almost his entire family has been killed. He escapes with his sister, his only related survivor. Something I found interesting was the fact that Ray Majors, one of two main characters, actually died. I personally figured that they would both help each other escape the battle, but only Hideki made it out.

So far, Ray Majors has killed his first Japanese soldier. It has left him completely scarred in the Pacific War. He has earned respect from his fellow soldiers by killing and cooking a pig for them. I would characterize Ray as, not scared necessarily, but eager to prove himself. He seemed to relax when making the rest of his soldiers happy.

In the epic conclusion of this book, it seemed that Apollo would finally get his powers back. However, it was shown that his journey of redeeming himself had only just begun. The message to the reader here is that the heroes do not always get their way. This is important because it conveys that one should not always assume that the heroes are better than villains.

In this part of the book, Apollo and his friends have been captured by Caligula, who threatens to kill them. In order to protect his friends, Apollo threatens to kill himself, since Caligula needs him alive to complete a spell to make him a god. The genre of this book is Greek mythology, young adult fiction, and fantasy fiction. It dipicts Greek history, but with fictional characters.

In this part of the book, Apollo and his friends encounter Medea, a powerful sorceress. They find out that she serves an ancient Roman Emperor named Caligula, also known as Julius Caesar. Medea’s intent is to destroy Apollo and name Caligula the new god of the Sun. One thing I wonder is how Medea plans to turn Caligula into a god. Does she have a spell to do it? I also wonder Zeus is making Apollo go through this.

Josh G is finished with The Hive Queen (Wings of Fire, #12)
At the end of the book, the dragons are discussing the future, and what the seer predicts. She seer, Moonwatcher, predicts that an ancient continent full of dragons unlike anything they have ever seen will come for them. I like this writing style because it leaves the plot in a cliffhanger. However, I would’ve liked it more if the writer had been a bit more clear about the plot.

At this point in the book, things seem strange for Reynie Muldoon. He sees an ad that invites him to take a test. On the day of the test, strange things start to occur. Reynie sees a cheater. Also, he seems like he was the only one to pass the test. I would characterize Reynie as an independent and trusting thinker. For example, when the cheater offered Reynie her answers, Reynie refused.

1. How will Mark develop as a character as he starts studying for his Bar Mitzvah?
2. If Mark continues on his present course of neglecting to study, will he be majorly underprepared by the time his Bar Mitzvah comes around? When is his Bar Mitzvah anyway?
3. How is Mark’s brother, Spencer, going to help his baseball team get better? Will they go on to win the pennant?

Having just started this book, I can’t say much about the plot, but it seems very connected to my own life. So far, it is about a boy named Mark, who not only has to play for the B’nai Bagels baseball team, but also must study for his Bar Mitzvah. Every year I play baseball, and I recently just started to study for my Bar Mitzvah. However, his best friend moves away to another part of town, and this affects the plot.

At this point of the book, the virus is getting out of hand. It spreads, and fills its victims with murderous rage, until they die. Next, I would predict the main characters of this book being unsuccessful to contain the virus, since this book takes place back in time before the Maze Runner, when the virus still existed. In this section of the book, the name of the virus is officially revealed. The Flare.

At this point in the book, new characters have appeared. The main ones are named Mark and Trina. They live in a remote village with many others. They managed to survive the solar flares when they hit the earth. But unexpectedly, a deadly disease is spreading. A deadly disease known as the Flare. In my opinion, the most important word so far is madness. Something the Flare imparts on its victims.

-At this point, the plot of the book ends with a note from WICKED, the group responsible for putting all the test subjects in the maze. The note described the amazing responses of the group, and how it was time to initiate Phase 2.
-Thomas, the main character, is persistent. This is because Thomas was able to do what no one had done in two years: Lead the other Gladers to the end of the maze.
