Gotta say, I love any book that finds a way to use the word "antimacassar."

Was prepared to give this two stars if the killer turned out to not be the clownishly obvious one.

Bloated and unless something knocks my socks off in the last 30 minutes of the book, predictable. Flat characters. Author constantly uses past participle when simple past tense is called for and i can't help but think it was done to pad the book out. This book is a great example of telling instead of showing.

This is so nice

Okay, around the beginning of chapter 4 the world around them is falling into lawlessness, and they are talking about how the local raiders are definitely going to attack them soon, and keep attacking, because they know they have lots of resources.

But then all of a sudden there's like a 15-20 year time jump! Nothing else said! The whole raiders thing has disappeared like it never existed. WTF!

Going to DNF. It's not you; it's me. I'm just not. Into fae stories.

This is breaking my heart already. Not sure if I can bear the whole thing.

Up to about 30% I was just listening for the vibes, enjoying it but not needing it. Now I am fully invested.

That one child in the tunnel...

It's not super weird or different so far, but it has my attention. Enjoying the writing; smooth flowing without being too wordy or dense. We'll see!

Not sure if I'm reading this yet. Enjoying the audio, but nothing's happened. As in it feels like a story being told, not a story that is happening.

Wasn't expecting a graphic rape scene at 5% in to my cutesy feminist chemist home ec story. At least, that's what it's marketed as. And why does it have a contemporary romance cover? Is the whole book just going to be how shitty and rapey men were/are? Because I'm aware of that, and if I want to read about it I'll choose non-fiction.

This book is awful lol. Should be half its length and needs loads of content editing.

I'm way too old for this lol. Reading because my niece is. Actually, it's very easily digested, so I'm not mad.

One problem: those whole "killing 75%of your students before graduation" thing is valueless ridiculous. No society would put in all the effort of raising and educating a child and then let them be pushed off a parapet by another student on the first day of dragon school!

May DNF, but not for lack of quality. I just need to accept that 99% of the time, I DGAF about YA.

Hailey Piper is a new favorite. Effortless storytelling reminiscent of Octavia Butler. Dissimilar genres, of course, but both their writing styles convey tons of information and imagery without getting flowery or convoluted. Nor is it sparse. It's like...just right.

DNF. Nothing against it, really, just it's boring and saccharine sweet. I think you may have to read this as an actual child in order to enjoy it.
