Dan is finished with Sharps
Wonderful. Maybe even better than "Meadowland" or the J.W. Wells books, and certainly better than Holt's recent output under his real name. Imagine saving your best stuff to publish under a pseudonym.

Dan is reading Writings in the Baltimore Evening Sun, 1921-1923: Edited and Annotated by S. T. Joshi
Weekly columns from the Evening Sun. A few funny ones, and lots of commentary about the 1922 disarmament conference in Washington -- which brought out a scorching disgust with U.S. imperialism (especially in Haiti) that would make a Jacobin editor blush. But lots of repetition, especially about Prohibition.

Dan is reading The Android's Dream
Brilliantly funny beginning, satisfying ending, and a long middle that's a little overstuffed and frantic, like one of Tom Holt's lesser works.

Dan is finished with Did God Have a Wife? Archaeology and Folk Religion in Ancient Israel
A good book undone by the final chapter and the afterword, where to a swell of strings Dever ponders what ancient worship of Asherah means for modern believers. Not what I came here for.
