DNF at 21%

Unfortunately I could just not get into this story right now. For me, the characters didn't feel real enough for me to care. Reading the dialogue felt like reading a script for a hallmark movie. The banter felt especially robotic. I am learning that I'm very particular when it comes to what I like in romance books, so I think this book just wasn't for me.

I am on a mission to re-read books I loved when I was younger. I'm very glad I grabbed this one. Carol Shields writes really specific feelings into words in a way that makes you feel like you're part of the world, things you forgot you ever wondered about or took the time and effort to try to explain.

2nd time reading, this time i'm going to listen to it on audio!

in a reading slump and struggling to get through this, but it seems like a book that should be read slowly anyways so i don't mind :)

oh i think i'm gonna like this one!!

i am crying because of Grame Gibson's parrot calling out "daddy!" "daddy!" when he donated to the Toronto zoo. i understand why he had to donate the parrot, but it's heartbreaking. i am too invested in this parrot. was he happy after he was left at the zoo? did he have babies? are the babies at the zoo now? i am so sad

i like this so far! it motivates me during my runs. also the narrator sometimes sounds so much like Brian from family guy
