This book is really fun so far. The prose is really evocative, especially the description of the swamp. "The proud, straight trunks gave way to stunted weaklings as the land began to sink. With an almost perceptible break, the forest ceased, the swamp began. Cypress was now the largest tree, its tortured roots gasping through the tepid slime, where even willow and sycamore drowned."
