Having Patroclus at Hellen's gathering of suitors is interesting. I admit i never really paid much attention to the long list of suitors before, so i don't know if it's new to this telling. It sets things up for why he might be a bit more keen on being part of the war than Achilles later on.

I do like how we already have a set up of Patroclus not liking archers.

chapter 8
Patrocles is a bit of a nothingburger.
I had enjoyed Circe so was expecting a bit more of an internal world revelaed about him.
I suppose it could be severe emotional stunting from his father. certainly any sort of emotion that comes through seems to surprise him.

so far he sort of reminds me of Gosling's description of a ken doll he found facedown in the dirt next to half a lemon.

Cordelia is not in the general vicinity of chill. she gives absolutely no fucks and doesn't hold back with anything. preggers lady Vorkosigan will fuck you up. then fuck up your family. and insult your stupid technology as being backwater and inhumane the whole time. <3

this is a villain that doesn't fuck around. pretty happy with that. I hope she doesn't lose her edge

so male lead is: a knighted nobleman well travled and respected scholar leading expert of black magic interested in progress and steam punk and is very shelockian the female lead is: conservative brave smart, but not smarter than the male has an insane (not insane) sister. do you see the issue here?

cool seeing victorian age zombies and mild steam punk going on.
the pacing seems sorta slow.
also, the female partner is MUCH too quiet. She has like, no personality and I'm upset by this

so far, this book is weird. and elphaba as a baby is the only character I really like. is that done on purpose?

Spoilers: I hope the Lady of the forgotten is ash's ex. I don't care how implausible it is.

spoilers: I'm betting miss kensie has some terminal illness. and Ethan is gonna be soooooo pissed. is it funny cause its sad? yes.

ethan's cool. although he seems a bit ashy. hopefully kieren(or whatever spelling) will be more puck-like to irritate ash/compensate for broody, sexy ethan

heavy born-again vibes in the book, but the protagonists doesn't seem to take it seriously. not sure what to think about it.

so good it inspired a new bookshelf. srsly, literature good. I wanna dissect it.

so far, not as weird as John Dies at the End. not as liking it as much. but the ending may redeem it :)

ready for more Puck. enough angst already, not any hint of honest affection. i feel like her nightmares arent fueled by guilt over not killing the iron king, but a just punishment for not taking up the iron throne.
