I think I missed an update at the 400 page mark because the book is just trundling along now but it's almost a completely different story to the one we started with! Wizard school, bards and romance - all good stuff. Still enjoying it, but once again, wondering where Patrick is taking us (and sort of wishing he'd hurry up and get there!)

Hooray!! The book is fun again!! Hogwarts/Earthsea wizard school time!!

The pacing has slowed down considerably, but I can feel our boy Patrick building to something really good (I hope. Please don't be like The Final Empire).

Okay we're off to a strong start

Big fan of the Witcher vibes at the beginning - we got monsters, we got superstitious village people, we got a mysterious main character covered in scars

A lot of the mystery built up in the opening has been undercut as the story pivots to being... an autobiography of the main character? As for magic, there's been more telling than showing so far. But we shall see!
