I have never heard that one before...

(and I spent a lot of time researching mayflies for a book)

wtf. . saying 'you seem like one of the good one' within of few pages of talking about race. And the underhanded attempt at mentioning police brutality only to dismiss it?

Adrenaline has just been described as a 'glitter through the limbs'.

Ugh. What kind of feeling is supposed to be evoked? Glitter has positive connotations, a glitter of love but anger infused adrenaline should be a spark, a burn, a flame. it should roar not sparkle.

A cop was just sexist and Alice just talked back by insulting housewives in her flawed attempt at feminism. Awesome. (Note: sarcasm)

For the record. Previous metaphors include:

'His eyes were the colour of sunlight through coke'.

A girl was described as having an expression of 'selfish ecstasy'.

And in the last chapter the love interest explained to the female MC he didn't like girls who call other girls a bitch. How feminist of him. I was half expecting him to start mansplaining why.

I have not been enjoying this thus far because the metaphors are atrocious. So what you're going to get is me updating you every time there is a horrendous metaphor. The will probably be paraphrased.

The most recent classic:
"She was as white as the flesh of an apple".

I thought apples were red/green?! Have I been seeing apples wrong my entire life?

I know I haven't been updating lately or reading or, well, anything. But the current book I'm reading has some of the worst metaphors in the world that it's finally convinced me to update goodreads.

I feel like someone should have told me how weird this book is.

So the Rose & the Dagger is out and instead of being excited to read it because of how much I loved the Wrath & the Dawn, I'm actually terrified to read it because of how much I loved the Wrath & the Dawn.

I know I'm reading this slowly but this book is AMAZING. Potentially 6 stars.

Ah purple prose, I know thee well. After just one chapter I have a feeling my review will be along the lines of 'flawed but enjoyable'. I always feel disheartened reading pieces where writers desperately try to be eloquent but struggle to grasp punctuation (commas are a thing guys). And only 23 pages in is enough for me to notice that at times it feels taken straight out of the screenplay.

This book is giving me too many FEELS.

I'm reading a book that's the last in a series of fictional books inspired by fictional fan fiction in another book. Meta right? And I love it.

I'm not a non-fiction/autobiography reader but I can't believe I doubted that I would enjoy this and I'm so glad I decided on the impromptu buy while physically in a book store :O Thank you Felicia for continuously never letting me down.

The names take some time to grasp but I can feel my reading slump melting away as I read this book.

Okay firstly I love that this is college leaving age and secondly yes, this is how us British teen thought in college. I genuinely wanted to burn all my books when I finished, I just never did and now I've seen Sam and Robin fail to burn laminated books I'm glad I didn't try (plus those text books are EXPENSIVE).

I have one comment I need to make. For someone who's googled it surely you'd know the whole hymen breaking thing isn't how it works.

I go for days without reading when I'm writing...

"Maybe the paper is defective." I just can't. I never would have thought a scene about a piece of paper could be so funny.

I was really enjoying this and then something stupid happened. A character lunged at a motorbike and a FRIEND drove off with her FRIEND clinging on. Like what the hell? That could KILL someone not leave behind a charred hand print. #rantover

This book - and I mean the actual physical book - is so beautiful it hurts and it feels perfect when combined with the story held between its pages. I have never held a book this beautifully made before.

WHICH BOOK DO I START TODAY? OH I DON'T KNOW I HAVE SO MANY CHOICES.
