I am insulted that the main character thinks that Careless Whisper would be an unknown song to a modern day schoolteacher. Even if (censored) was born after the George Michael song was a hit, Shinedown did a rock version in 2007 that made a whole new generation appreciate this song. Seriously, unless you're born in the year that this book was released, you have some exposure to this song.

Sheriff- No idea what the hell is going on. Maybe it's because I'm not British?

Justice -- Although graphic and heavy on karma, there is little attachment to any of the characters. The narrator tells us that bad things happened and this justifies the bad things that occur in the story. But as a reader, all I'm experiencing is the "good" guy doing bad things.

Well researched setting with a unique cast of characters that are interesting even if one dimensional. The politics between the families make this a page turner.

Good read not great. There are a lot of characters to keep track of yet the simple plot makes up for it. World-building and magic system is unique.

This is the second book I've read by her. Ugh, her narration is so damn good. I don't even like detective stories but I can't stop reading.

Too many character names and places.

I don't get why the characters believe that if xxx happened then it changes the fundamentals of all human religions. Event if the story version was true, it doesn't make everything else invalidated. I feel like the author is making assumptions based on personal beliefs and not for plot reasons.

Story is getting better. Had one tender conversation between Daniel and his dad but otherwise the characters aren't that likeable.

Finally some interesting plot development that involves Daniel's mother.

The historical and lingustic aspects of this book are far more interesting than the actual plot. I have zero affection for the main character. The scenes jump around and I'm not feeling any natural flow. Writing is good. Dialogue is natural. Just not feeling invested in the story.

Tempted to DNF because its not a well-told story, but it's an easy read.

104 pages of explaining everything through dialogue.

Well...this book started with a BANG.

Its a book dedicated to pointing out how pathetic 90% of the other books in the genre are. Love the humor. Need more geriatric vampires. I bet his fangs are really dentures.

Wish the magic rules and creatures were more define. Feels wrong to learn about how things work when the book is almost finished.

I wish the setting and worldbuilding was more clearly explained.

Won the sequel in goodreads giveaway. Happy that the first book is a decent read thus far.
