Ooooo! A new Jordan Harper! Immediately putting aside the two other books I was reading to dive into this one.

I might be biased, having a short memoir piece herein, but this is a most excellent collection of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry about love in all its many forms, from familial to romantic to platonic to love of animals and love country.

1/4 of the way through and I haven’t seen any of the promised humor yet.

Re-reading again 5 years on as I just finished the Three Musketeers — again!

I like that Emerson makes even the bad guy well-rounded and understandable.

When people talk about the west, they never mention the smell.

I’m loving this novel so far!

I’m intrigued, amused, annoyed and fascinated. As so much of my own writing is “micro,” I’m enjoying seeing how another handles very short form.

The usual adventures and excitement from the Sigma Force team.

Ironically, I’m reading this in pieces rather than large chunks. Perhaps a commentary of my own focus.

Fascinating so far!

So many phrases and sentences that make you pause and saw, “ yes. That is perfectly said.” Harper writes beautifully.
Here’s one: “Sometimes he worried that to her he was another drowning polar bear, another thing to try to pull to safety from this melting world. But maybe that’s what he was and maybe there are worse things than being saved.”

The story called Ad Hominum Attack is incredible!

“ …in that moment, in the shadow of Micah’s loss and in anticipation of all the losses yet to come, Rachel had become one of the mothers she never thought she would be — the ones who could not look their own children in the eye.”

Powerful writing.

On page 50 and still haven’t seen any passages that would fall into the category of “outrageously funny,” but maybe soon …!
