This book has "eldest son" energy. It's a different voice than Vis, an outcast orphan.

I can confirm the book gets better at the time jump.

She's so stereotypically "tradwife". This has to be an intentional choice for Burke to make her think like this. Hopefully the flatness of her character is something the book will payoff later.

Fml I looked up reviews of this book and let me tell you, the author didn’t read the room. I guess there will be three books so there is time yet. Because (SPOILER!!!) the protagonist is severely oppressed and once you know you can’t read this book the same way.

this book is so good so far. It's similarly paced to the first and the writing is incredibly on point. I will definitely re-read this book, too, just like I did the first book.
