I've always had a deep aversion to this book... And little wonder. As I started reading, it's the story of me, almost verbatim.

A divorced woman, disillusioned by her own successes... Getting everything that she never really wanted. Losing everything that in her mind, defined her.

In a world that tells us what to want, in order to be a "good woman".... I suspect this story belongs to many women.

Sometimes it ain't fair. Sometimes it just sucks. Yes I agree... F*ck positivity... And fuck trying to mind f*ck ourselves with a bunch of insipid cliches. Telling someone to "think positive" when they're dying of personal agony... Is just psychotic.

I love this effing book already!

I so identify with this author's desire to experience a different reality firsthand, to immerse and to blend into a lifestyle that is foreign. It's a kind of tourism all its own, but with the capacity to change everything about a person, everything you thought you knew about life. I'm fascinated with this period in history and place, I'm so grateful that somebody took the time to write with this perspective.

This is for sure, the best book I've listened to in a very long time. This author can write... And it is beautifully narrated as well. I can't turn it off:)

So far, I'm loving the audible version of this book, it sounds as though it's narrated straight out of whitechapel, 1880.

I don't know if I can finish this, I almost feel badly for buying it, when I think of each victim, and their poor families..is it really necessary to describe each rape in such detail? Any family harmed by these monsters would just be violated over and over again by this book it seems. I really hope Tony gets around to actually doing some good here. The monsters have surely gained new enjoyment from this book..:(

At this point in the book, an unnamed(?) detective allegedly states "No man could have refused the things she was doing, blaming Jodi entirely for Travis' promiscuous behavior. The promotion of rape culture really discredits the book for me. I doubt any detective was speaking for all of mankind in such a way. It doesn't give Travis much credit, and paints him as a primitive monkey.

Man... I so regret listening to this as an audio book... The drivel of this teenager is one thing.. Add in the valley girl voice, and I'm literally just chomping at the bit for this girl to just be killed already, hoping it gets better after that. I've read a lot of great reviews... But then again... It is YA fiction, maybe it just isn't my thing? We shall see..

Just as I am finishing this book, I have also watched the movie, and have just purchased the uncensored version of this book, that I did not yet know existed. I could not be more fascinated, who said classics were boring and hard to read?

Unfortunately I chose the radio adaptation of this book, not really realizing that was what it was. I'm finding it difficult to follow, and may end up just getting an old fashioned copy from a library. Has anyone else listened to this version?

This book is making me sick.. Not the vampire parts, but in that it seems to attempt to create sympathy for a paedophile, and describes in disgusting detail scenes that I feel are pornographic, describing the sexual abuse of young boys. I cannot finish this book. Watch the movie.

So much hype about people vomiting while reading the "first story"... A lot of hype, I'm unimpressed. It's not all that gory if you've watched a few horror movies, it isn't scary...it had potential but so far It just isn't living up to it. I feel like moving on...
