Three chapters into this book.
Insipid, poor dialogue, painful to read!
The characters come off as vacuous, uneducated, and ignorantly arrogant. Not coming off as educated psychologists, or anyone educated in the roots of psychology, philosophy.
OUCH!

Got this book after hearing Tolstoy felt it was his biggest accomplishment. So far it is an excellent addition of poignant thought! Enjoy it!

The fictional mechanism of the little girl getting secret philosophical letters from an unknown teacher is trite, contrived and hard to slog through! Crappy vehicle to explore some history of philosophy. Very obnoxious!

I have really been enjoying this book. The dilemmas it presents regarding perception, understanding, memory, self justification, etc are all good thought fodder for me!

I liked the look of this book because it seemed similar to Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. A romp through the history of philosophy couched in a tale of fiction. currently on chapter four. We will see how it goes.

i like reading three or four of these during the day when i am wanting for mental fodder. some are more abstruse than others, but all of them are a four or five page read with a one page problem and three or four page dissection. fun reading!

i'm about halfway through this. i like the author's alternate look at complex belief systems as it relates to popular trends and sensationalist claims. the diamond has many facets.

i really liked the anecdotes of faulty critical thinking in the first part of the book but allens tone tends to come across as smug and elitist. his writing is often breezily simplistic... his tone reminds me of some arisocratic victorian rants i have read. maybe it gets better later on.
