I’ve hung in there with this book because I am willing to accept overload for a worthwhile payoff, but with <50 pages to go, a scene is so over-the-top and gross that it’s almost comical. Is this necessary? Maybe, since all that precedes it is already so dark and depraved, but I’m almost embarrassed for the author reading this scene. Maybe I’m missing something, but I’m not sure what could justify it.

Every character is this book makes the absolute worst decisions possible.

This novel is making me feel remarkably well adjusted. Maybe I’m the oddball for not having some of these issues, even if I can understand some of them.
