Wow. Just, wow. In just the first few pages the author is already reachign to try to justify the actions of United Fruit in Guatemala, without even having gotten to explaining what it is they did (for the most part). Confident statements like "UF was the first to successfully put farms in the disease-ridden jungle" just don't hold up when you realize this means Guatemalans had to live in that same jungle to work.

It's so bad. Twain competing with Verne, putting Huck and Tom on an airship bad.

So far there have been some real fun stories, many with not-so-veiled twists and surprises - but fun, nonetheless.

Having read several Lazarus Long stories before, I'm enjoying myself even though this story rambles like a James Clavell novel. Anyone new to the series, don't start here.

I'd heard mumblings that Galapagos wasn't nearly Vonnegut's best work. At aout half-way through, I'm thinking I can give more substance to that - the style of Galapagos makes me feel like I'm reading Hitchhiker's Guide, but it's more dark, moves even more erratically, and isn't near as funny.

I've read better collections of short stories, even from McSweeney's. Of course, collections of original short stories have an edge.

Chugging along and just hit a Zelazny short. Should breeze through that soon.

It's an anti-novel. There's not page numbers! I'm already loving it though.

Man I was so happy to find a book with no sequels, only to find it's really the intro of a character in 14 other books...

Gahh, so much awesomeness, must struggle onward...

This is a fast, fun read that I was lucky to find for a dime in a junk shop.
