This right here is the problem with one-night stands as a beginning of a romance - the plot jumped the gun by putting them in bed and now they need to get back to the basics AKA filling a lot of BS and excuses to keep them apart and actually date but also not but also spend time together but also not be in a relationship, keeping them in some bad limbo so they fall in love at the right time.

I think we need to normalise amicable breakups. The shovel talk is annoying - why would Monroe have to be the bad guy. I know this is a romance book but if a relationship doesn't work out, it might just mean it didn't work out, revolutionary, I know. It might be painful but it is not always because someone treated the other person badly.

I can't believe it took me this long to mention this but: CAT! Cat as a side character is the unfair trump card for any book.

There is some weird logic that tells me the dad has not as much to stand on, considering his 23-year-old son now has a newborn brother. Like, it's different, but if you can have kids after your kid has left the nest, you should know life is too complicated to bother with looking over the numbers. Makes any kind of sense to anyone? 😅

You know the apology is going well when it starts with "Knox wants me to apologise".

You know, I am not an expert at love but saying "I love you but I can't support what you're doing" is an oxymoron, as far as I am concerned.

Like, she was obviously a good parent-aunt but she obviously could have improved her communication skills if you are still surprised by her decisions and her life outside of you. I mean, is it the kid's fault if the adult in their life never says the kid is wanted and loved?? It's not that simple but... it also is.

I see... I guess routine is not a bad word for repression and avoidance. It's close enough to coping mechanisms to make me feel harsh for the accusations. I like routine as well, but focusing on other stuff until it stops hurting so much... not sure how well it will work here, man.

Ok, revolutionary thought here - age CAN be just a number. Middle-aged women fall for abusive men, older rich guys fall for young gold-digging people... you can be naive or trust the wrong person at any age, you can be manipulated/taken advantage of by someone younger. There is a precedent and reason for terms like grooming but age? That's oversimplifying things.

What an interesting solution to the "what would dad think". Also, honorary uncle? You foisted Know onto your ex-wife, your friend Monroes saw him even less than you, there is no uncle, honorary or otherwise.

Are they seriously about to read a bedtime story about two (male) bunnies finding a new home to settle down in?? On the nose much? 😆

What is worse than triplets as side characters? Annoying and young triplets that are supposed to be the reason Knox wants to stay.

Trouble in paradise? Uh, is Knox "I am not saying I love you back" seriously just accusing Monroe of not being serious about their relationship?? As far as I am concerned, ignoring the "love languages" BS, if you are not honest enough to say it out loud, you're not fit to do it.

This is the first scene that managed to suprise me. Not only does the older guy say the L word first, he expects Knox to follow him instead of (Monroe being more independent) following Knox's dreams (school). AND Knox doesn't react with "love you too, let's move to your San Fran house and live HEA". Huh. Is it changing plans for love bit he objects to? It shouldn't apply here, he wouldn't be giving up anything.

Ah, of course, can't forget "proof the young guy can keep up with his older friends" scene.

I get it, the book is "conservative" enough to want to avoid any and all power imbalance issues so on top of this equality thing they have going on (which I dig, that's what I prefer too) the younger MC is making all the moves. They both want it, both push and pull but to make it clear the age is not an issue, Know is going to... do the honors. No penet... would have been interesting but oh well.

I like Wulfe. I don't have enough (sensible) reasons but... I do like him and I knew he was going to be... well, Wulfe 😂.

Eh. I dislike Marcilia and scenes with her but... there is something to the phrase "the devil that you know". I dislike someone opposing the Tri-City... paranormal... grouping (?) as a whole even less.

Ah, I was thinking it was going too well. Mercy still has some convincing to do. She kicks ass, saves Adam and takes names and Honey is like, "you're such a freak". Bless the birch's heart,

This is the great thing about graphic audio. It's so much easier to recognise characters within such a large cast when everyone has a unique voice. Easier than, I would say, even the book.

Yeah... that. "Stephan was a vampire so I could never fully trust him." I am not used to that. I am used to dangerous and/or annoying characters proving themselves, being recruited to become part of the inner circle. Mercy is supposed to be the glue that brings all these otherwise separate powers together. Yet so often, these relationships are fickle and only reach so far.

Also, I both dislike and admire the choice of the... fallen. At this point, I feel like losing a random wolf even on the list of important side characters, would be bearable, for some annoying side characters, I wouldn't even shed a tear, which would be good but it would mean the scene failed to do what it should have. This... this hurt.

I am not too fond of the rigidly hierarchical structure chosen by Briggs: I don't see why eye contact is a challenge if the alpha is secure in his power, why werewolves need to be so savage and so on but this scene at least reminds me it's more because this is the old-fashioned view, were volvew are no just stuffed toys but a different species and they struggle with their affliction.

What a joke. I can't tell you who is our teacher but my teacher is another rider! That's keeping the letter, not the spirit of the oath. Gah.
