Most I’ve ever annotated a book, Vanessa makes me unbelievably sad.

Have actually been reading this book for few days before. Beyond that enjoying it so much I dog ear the pages

cleaning out my two year old shelves feels good to actually have things i’m interested in

The MC has a very weird way of interacting with the woman in his life; from his perspective they have either been scathed for their looks or had the very real possibility of sexual assault brought up as something to be ashamed of, yet here he is at page 68 bemoaning being treated like an object. Huh.

MC is met with someone who exists outside herself and believes people deserve a right to live regardless of the opinion of some white suburban boy. To this he says: “...you went to a party, got hammered, and tried to avoid getting groped by every guy with hands?” This kid and the way he talks about women actually sucks. I don’t think the authors doing it on purpose. Crossing my fingers just a little harder now.

Currently ambivalent towards this book, but crossing my fingers it gets better and all the flaws are intentional. Ive waited almost two years to read this and so far the MC is a let-down.

Maybe it’s just because I’ve already come to all of these supposedly super deep realizations and grown past them, but a lot of these “ooh edgy nihilist nothing matters” moments just feel hollow.
