“Can you lose the glasses?”

I could not. I was half-blind without them. That was before I discovered the miracle of contact lenses. When I was in college, the idea of sticking my fingers in my eyes was too horrible for words.

Nobody is on time for anything in the real world. The only thing you must be on time for is the school bus, because that waits for nobody.

At every frame, Theo leaned forward and genuflected, a man transfixed.

“But she’ll know we were here.”

He nods. “That’s the point. You don’t try to hide it, you embrace it. Answer the question before they can ask it.”

It’s the worst possible time to start something with him, but the one thing I’ve learned is not to wait for what you want because you never know how long you have to get it.

This is the tricky part. It’s not just the anatomy of an alibi- having someone vouch that you were somewhere else when the crime was committed- but it’s the psychology of it: that that someone is believable. A family member automatically brings skepticism, especially one who is “prepared”, as she put it.

Father steps down from the pulpit and genuflects in front of the altar before moving to the front row where the family sits.

He studies the papers and pictures first. If it were me, I would have turned in some music or the TV, anything for a little background noise, but not Ben. He loves the silence. Says he thinks better when nothing is competing with his thoughts.
