As I read this, it is bittersweet knowing that I soon will not have further adventures to be in with James Herriot.

These essays are very challenging to read. I realize I participate in the process that has killed the local economies across our nation.

How often do we share words of blessing to others? This book is convincing me that it is not enough, in my case. I have made small steps to move in the “speak more blessing” direction, as a result of reading this book.

Scott Lake is 43% done with Where Good Ideas Come From
Johnson is one of my favorite authors. That said, one could easily edit out 30% of this book where Johnson is trying with all his might to align innovation with evolution. Poor science hinted by Johnson, perhaps the worst is his anecdote of Archaeopteryx jumping from a tree and discovering it can fly. Quite embarrassing, and honestly does not contribute to the theme expressed in the title of the book.

I need to study some of the words that are coming up frequently in this book, e.g. “subaltern “ to better appreciate the stories.

Challenging. I’m not sure you can read it and not make some changes that will require putting down some distractions. Be prepared for that.

Excellent short stories. I’m convinced that Amor Towles will be recognized as one of the greatest storytellers of our time; with long form novels like A Gentleman in Moscow and The Lincoln Highway coupled with completely engaging and varied stories as in this book. Ok, back to the book!

I’m not sure what I will think when I’m through with this book. It has become a sort of companion in the evenings the past few weeks.

Scott Lake is on page 80 of 784 of The Collected Works of W. B. Yeats, Volume 1: The Poems
Finding inspiration for my own poem and lyric writing. Curious the rhyming of ‘mind’ and ‘wind’ that Yeats has used several times in his work. I’m not familiar enough with Irish pronunciation to know if this is a true rhyme or not.
