The only issue I have with this book so far takes place in Taylor's introduction where he calls The Message, Eugene Peterson's "translation." The Message is not considered a translation by any Bible scholar. It is a wonderful paraphrase, not unlike the Living Bible was before the New Living Translation took the paraphrase and gave it proper translation treatment and credibility.

Chapter on Poetry:

The examples given are mostly reinterpretations of various Psalms, Taylor calls them translations - which they are not. While Taylor uses incorrect terminology, it does underline perhaps our responsibility to reinterpret the Psalms in our own language, as a practice.

As I read this, it is bittersweet knowing that I soon will not have further adventures to be in with James Herriot.

These essays are very challenging to read. I realize I participate in the process that has killed the local economies across our nation.

How often do we share words of blessing to others? This book is convincing me that it is not enough, in my case. I have made small steps to move in the “speak more blessing” direction, as a result of reading this book.

Johnson is one of my favorite authors. That said, one could easily edit out 30% of this book where Johnson is trying with all his might to align innovation with evolution. Poor science hinted by Johnson, perhaps the worst is his anecdote of Archaeopteryx jumping from a tree and discovering it can fly. Quite embarrassing, and honestly does not contribute to the theme expressed in the title of the book.
