So far it's a rather painful read. I can't relate to any of the leads, whose shared characteristic is being among the most stupid persons I read about. The whole plot lies about a bad experience during their first encounter (outside of the book) and frankly that misunderstanding takes for both of them the proportion of the Everest, while it's barely a molehill

Picked this book based on a reco from a book character, as it was her favorite Heyer. Glad that I did as I wonder how I could not have identified this one before.

The first 3 chapters gave me hope that this book would be less silly than usual. The 4th just destroyed it all. It might be even worse!

LaFleurBleue is 30% done with The Girl in 6E (Deanna Madden, #1)
I don't quite see the hype and the genius that many readers found in this book. It really feels to me like a fanfic of American Psycho, with a female lead, a large sprinkle of sex but without the depth and character ambiguity.
Honestly it's almost painfully boring to read.
And I also do not care much for the style.
I stopped reading it right in the middle of what should be a climatic scene. With no qualms...

Call me jaded. After 5 pages, I believe I know what to expect and what not - and I would be very surprised if this book managed to exceed a 3 star rating... Let's try to give it a chance, though. It might be funnier and more entertaining than expected.

This is terrible. But so terrible that I alternate between banging my head on the wall and laughing out loud. Half time down the book, 95% of the interactions between the H/h have been fights.

I'm quite sure I'll put the book up for sale as soon as it's finished. I'm so disappointed, as I had really like my last book from Liz Carlyle which was the 4th in this series.

I'll keep mum as of now regarding the content. However I wish to complain about the ugly and inadapted cover of the book. As it is a paperback, I see the model smug and moronic face every time I pick it up or everytime I forgot to lay it back to front with the cover below. Obviously he does not look like the hero whose hair is described as very shortly cropped. And his lusty-looking ways are such a turn-off.

I already like the dialogues and the confrontation between the new Earl, his waspish step-mother and jealous step-brother.

This story takes place during the French revolution (1792-1793); plenty of French words and sentences are used and misused, with regular small mistakes mostly with articles and nouns gender. However the one that had me laughing out loud was the confusion between "La Terreur" (the Terror/Dread - period in 1793 when executions were fierce) and "Le Terroir" (Regional area with specific traditions). What a blunder!

Ben is already on the verge of being in luv with Grace, right after seeing her picture at her grandma's house, but careful her inner deep self that she has not found yet and not the debutante with a deep pocket trust fund.
Fortunately it gets slighty better after, thanks to Ben and definitely not to the ninny Grace.

Sigh...
I have not reached yet the half of it. It feels like a mix of a bad family saga soap opera, with a German mystery TV play...
And the main characters are so unlikable ;(

Until now, it's been a very painful read... Quite nicely written, perfectly edited, but I just hate all characters, find the setting stupid and nothing believable or interesting in the story. Trying to rush through it to the end. And it's not even tepid. Total failure, as of now

I can't really say it's a very convincing start. Quite a few things seem anachronical, like the heroine's occupation (investigation journalist for a newspaper in a girls' team in 1825).
At least as of now I do not see how a working heroine from humble origin could solve the Duke's insolvency issue. And it's already quite steamy... Let's hope;)

Now the super hero, by the way rather nicer than the heroine, is able to recognize perfectly a Parisian accent, something that no native speakers can do any more, as the "titi parisien" accent (Parisian street urchin accent) is no longer heard and hasn't been for decades.

I hate it when the author are completely off of the practical realities.
The heroin, American, is supposed to be so fluent in French, that she can fool native speakers. She has not even grown there, just lived there quite many years as an adult. I have trouble to buy it.

When starting reading it, I went back to the cover page to check if the author was really Suzanne Brockmann. Not a good sign!
And I keep wondering what drove her to write that...

I'm really struggling with this one. Each time I open it, I end up shaking my head, rolling my eyes from the first page onwards. And it's really tough to go on reading more than one chapter at a time.
The girl, whom I cannot call a heroin, is just plain dumb, stupid and brainless. Her husband is a lying asshole; his admiration of the perceptiveness of his brainless and witless wife cast doubt on his own intelligence
