Wife read - not interested.

I really wanted to like this book. I didn't. I have read most of Mr. Weber's writing and this book is a serious divergence from his roots of tight plots and lots of action. This book spent WAY too much time with minutia. I could not develop a relationship with the characters. While the action seemed to lapse, the alien menace story arc seemed to be left unattended. I will try one more Safehold book but that is all.

This was a pretty miserable book with way too much build up for no outcomes. I would not waste my time on it or its sequels.

I abandoned the book after several chapters of un-engaging travels in and around the Greek Isles. The book failed to capture my interest and I walked away.
