Pretty much pan-fiction, not so much non-fiction

Having trouble getting into this one

I wish I felt better about DNF-ing books because I do not enjoy this book. There are brief sentences that are flashes of brilliance but otherwise the world-building is mediocre and the pacing is wonky.

I have to take breaks bc I’m having reactions to the emotionally draining plot twists.

This is such an epic story — only 2/3 the way through and I’ve laughed and cried and “oh-no”ed and celebrated … and there’s undoubtedly more to come

Really enjoying this — reminds me why I liked her other series so much

Still trying to decide how I feel about this protagonist.

So far not enjoying this. So many selfish decisions made and so much poor communication within the first hour of the narration.

When I’ve written my own little stories (look, I’m not claiming to write good fiction, here), I’ve run into trouble getting the “voice” correct for young protagonists … and that was my first thought starting this book as well.

I’ve decided not to finish this audiobook since I just wasn’t enjoying it

I’ve enjoyed many Stiefvater books but not so much this one.

“He was a book, and he was holding his final pages. And he wanted to get to the end to find out how it went. And he didn’t want it to be over.”

I’m having a really difficult time reading this — still not able to empathise with the main characters. Maybe too much moral ambiguity? Not that they’re “that bad” … i don’t know

The protagonist is sooooo over the top that I find myself laughing as I’m listening to the book, which I think is not the intended result but still means it is entertaining \_••_/

I am having a really difficult time identifying with the protagonist from a place of empathy.

I can already tell that I should’ve read it, not listened to it

Bahni Turpin = one of my favorite narrators

A deep dive into the murky world of postpartum depression, regular depression, searching, finding. Written in frequent stream of consciousness that probably doesn’t appeal to everyone.

(Audiobook) I’m halfway through this and still am having trouble liking the narrator/protagonist. She doesn’t have any saving qualities for me yet..

Listening to the audiobook with SciFiGuy when we can … it’s 29 hours and his voice is so iconic that it just sounds wrong to speed it up! So we have to rejoin the library waitlisted every time our turn is up!

I am bothered in this book by too-obvious foreshadowing just as I was in one of the last YA series I read. I don’t need things spelled out for me, thanks. It just makes me annoyed.

Unfortunately not enjoying this one any more than the others… is it the poor judgment of the protagonist? Is it the blatant foreshadowing? What is it?
