While the topic is interesting, after making it 25% of the way through the book it’s clear to me that the writing is too academic and contains too much anthropology for me to follow what the author is saying. I wouldn’t recommend this book unless you’re an academic or you have a great interest in the history of debt.

"To produce a mighty book you must choose a mighty theme."

This is the kind of book one writes after they haven’t been laid in two years because they’ve been living at a pond down by the river.

A compelling portrait of a spiteful and wretched character. A man without dignity. A book I feel I’ll need to read again to better understand the narrator.
