Taking a break from this after a main character made a crack about "President Grandpa" and another character agreed. As the USA, left better by the last regime, is currently being decimated by a creepy, deficient, deviant, elderly, fifth-rate con-man any intelligent person would NOT want playing grandpa to ANYONE's children, I am finding the cutesy banter less and less amusing.

Written ten years ago, as I listen to the audiobook, I am too reminded of Stephen King, describing every single character that are too flawed for us to want to know even slightly.

For this telling of an attack on the power grid, each person takes the longest time to act while thinking through the most mundane, unrelated actions before actually doing anything. REACT! Your characters would dash through the house unplugging everything rather than announcing each plug in each room. Jump to! A power surge is coming! Please sedately and verbosely waste time. No! Zip to it!

If not for the interminable seeming lists of references, sexual partners, sexual acts, whatevers, this would be a novella. Maybe.

I think I'm lost in this giant book of interminable lists. It's like having your little savant genius cousin tell you everything something is and also every single thing it is not. Then he periodically shows up to tell you about something else. What is this house which may or may not be indifferent to you?

An interesting take on the inspiration for the Scarlet Letter, it deals with synesthesia and neurodivergence in light of the witch hunts. Embroidery becomes its own form of color and stitchery magic.

Sort through what is applicable in this book because he focuses in on ALSO getting rid of things like towels when you'll just have to buy more when they age or you have guests. He also thinks all of us can alter our bodies and appearance easily and should do so; this simply is not the case for many people. Stopping reading as he talks about ending relationships with people who don't benefit you.

I am actually listening to the audiobook of the restored edition. Written when he was 65, this remarkable book shows ERB had either an inkling or a grasp of the quantum multiverse string theory paradox. Shot down by a Nazi warplane, shot through the heart, he is blasted into another existence on a far planet.

Listening to the eaudiobook of #Severance by #LingMa. Written before #COVID19 was taken worldwide by non-believers, it's a dry, wry look at all the little ways a pandemic affects our meaningless lives. #Zombies aren't the only ones stumbling across the landscape. #ApocalypseAngst

Karen is finished with Night Shift (Midnight, Texas, #3)
An excellent third book in a series as it gave more than alluded. I enjoy the crossover mentions & characters from the Sookie Stackhouse series. And, Mr. Smug Snug is as amusing as ever as Fiji's effing cat-familiar! =^•∆•^=

I"m about halfway through this. I am very much enjoying this story which rather uses trees as an allegory for the separateness of people. The caring, nurturing people for whom nature has a calling--if not actual husbandry of trees then study and preservation. And, the callous, pernicious people who destroy just to do it, or in jealousy because another cares, to have their way. Family scatters like windblown seeds.

But for an anachronism early on of something smelling like burning rubber, I truly enjoyed Runemarks. The gods are careless of where they scatter their seed but it sometimes works to their advantage. Or that of the Nine Worlds.
