This is making me so happy. I want to say more but I will leave it at this: Disability representation done well. Over all the story is enjoyable but this is just what’s so bright about it for me.

(There’s the stereotypical “omg he’s so good I lit the curtains on fire with my organism” trope that runs rampant in romance-fantasy but I don’t hate it)

I like that the MC is disabled but that the book is not pitched or advertised as a book about disability—let’s see if Olivia ends up getting “fixed” or if she’s allowed to be powerful just the way she is *cough cough*

One thing I *really* like is that the future setting is very near future, which I think colors the story with a lot of hope and optimism. The book starts with a character mentioning the year—2025—but we’re seeing tech like pod travel and areal AI connectivity.

How many decades do we think it will take for society to get over the “magical boarding school with competitive Houses” trope? I don’t hate it, certainly not in this, but it’s just a thought that crossed my mind.

I don’t want to accidentally spoil something for anyone so from here out I’m keeping my thoughts to myself 👀

Sensory description is stellar. I’m sitting in my air-conditioned and well-ventilated house but still feel the prickling summer heat of an AC-less car under my chin and on my shoulders.
