Even though I love/hate how real Sandow’s dismissal of Alex and Dawes is, its really annoying me there isn’t even like a mention of Alex thinking not to tell him everything she learned so it just looks like she’s not giving him all the evidence because… why?

I feel like I’m getting too old for “person suddenly feels attraction to person after being off their face” on whatever the drug of the day is.

I won’t lie, maybe its just a strong friendship Darlington and Alex have but I’m reading them as becoming romantic and I am extremely put off by that. Maybe because the idea of this highly traumatised girl having any interest in this guy who annoyed her when they met and she knew all of two months before he disappeared feels forced to me.

Can’t lie I’m not getting the biggest romance vibe so far. Obviously I know Jane’s quasi paranormal situation is a fairly relevant part of the book but I don’t know there just hasn’t been enough for me after 110 pages. Hope it gets more sappy 🤞

Holy shit... these last hundred and something pages have been a hell of a ride. I thought I'd cried all the tears I was going to (and they weren't many) but god damn it, if you know what happens around this point in the book, that shit felt so unfair.

Dude… plot wise Isabelle’s chapters are fun but damn Vianne’s consistently hit me like a ton of bricks.

Ok no she's pissing me off now. You can be an impulsive person and not be a complete idiot. Why would someone who knows the French police are cooperating with the nazis (under duress or otherwise), who just said to herself "I can't risk them writing down my name", just go up to the French police and demand to know what's happening? Like yes, it's an atrocity but what the hell are you going to be able to do about it?

I know they can’t just expose Eduardo but really? Isabelle can’t even acknowledge he did like half the work in her head? Tf in the Katniss Everdeen is this?

Ok at the very least I see Isabelle’s perspective. Her dad abandoned her, of course that means he’d be the first to serve as a nazi lapdog and “abandon” France too. I just wish she sounded more convincing as a rebel. She still talks like someone from twitter who does a lot of posturing with no action. Which is bizarre because she is doing shit.

I do like at this point Vianne is basically telling her daughter “I wasn’t gonna let your aunt get you in danger being stupid so I sure as shit ain’t letting you get yourself in danger being stupid.”

Ok, I've finally worked out how to put it into words. Isabelle is giving the same energy towards the nazis as the outcast girl gives to the queen bee in high school comedies. "I don't CARE what they think" well you should Isabelle because they can and will kill you and your family you bloody dunce.

I’m so glad I’ve read past this point before and know Isabelle gets better because god, she is such a selfish prick earlier on. Its like she’s constantly waving her hands at the nazis saying “DID YOU SEE? I’M REBELLING!!!” Like bitch… you don’t have to follow all the rules but why be so damn stupid about it?

Sigh… oh Isabelle.

I forgot how cool and dangerous Gaet thinks he is when he first shows up. Mate I’ve had toe nails tougher than you.

I’m actually kind of enjoying the sort of detached way AB writes and draws. Its oddly relatable.

I 100% get what the author was going for here and abortion 100% should be considered a viable option but god damn, sis just came out and asked. On national tv. Of the daughter that he is sole guardian of. Could not be me is all I’m saying.

I was not mad about how the “twist” worked out honestly. Not what I expected. It also really weirds me out when a book gives me a lesson I really need in that moment.

Holy shit that just happened. This book was kind of low on the juice until this week but my freaking god. That was a lot. Tbh though, and this is kind of a spoiler, I’d have snapped my fingers all the way off if Bea had turned around and said “I’m not the fat hypocrite dude, you are.”

Ok I’m already getting mild whiplash trying to keep up here. I know we don’t normally get to know the men on the bachelor until week 3 but it’d help if I could kind of keep track of who was getting eliminated. Also f you Jaime. I was rooting for you.

Girl. I’ve acted the fool around a former crush. But you’re like 30. Please have a bit more compassion for the woman waiting at home for him. I’m not mad at the book so far but this was a super flawed place to start.

Once I accepted it wasn’t as good as the first one this has actually been quite a relaxing read after my last one (good but clearly literary).

Was gonna DNF this at 100 pages for mental health reasons plus it is definitely not the first book. That said, its pretty easy to read so ima keep at it.

Gonna have to DNF here; I’m not in the right headspace for how incredibly overtly murderous and perverted Joe is. Maybe its time for a comic again.
