I feel a little scarred after finishing this. Quite possibly one of the most distressing books i’ve ever read and I think it’s gonna haunt for me for the rest of my life if I’m being honest. Do not read this if you are faint of heart. It’s incredible, though not without its flaws, but to borrow a term from Nyx Fears, this books is Not Safe for Life.

And I thought Immalee's story was slow... "the lovers tale" is downright tedious and so far has no relevance to the story.

The Tale of Guzman was quite sensational and fun!

This whole Melmoth + Immolee Romance arc is starting to really drag on.

I ended up skimming through the disgustingly Orientalist scene where Melmoth shows Immalee the "horrors" of Hinduism and Islam. It literally just felt like religious propaganda. However, the subsequent scene portraying an inverted recreation of the Fall was cool.

I have just entered the Third Layer of nested stories. We have to go deeper.

So far it's living up to the moody gothic horror I was hoping for. The ominous character of Melmoth haunts every page.
