For the last several weeks I've been catching up with journals that have gone unread for too long. Almost at the end of that process. I read a book somewhere in the middle of September, and am reading a collection of letters at work now, but it's important to clear away the months of nyRBs and lRBs.

In reviewing George Saunders' Vigil in the lRB, when Adam Mars-Jones says that "the eye, accustomed as it is to punctuation that aims to smooth the experience of reading rather than roughen it up," he reveals himself, again, as a pissy little reviewer with a conventional mind and a censorious streak. His engine of thinking is as powerful as a hand crank. Yes, mark me down as undecided.

Reading a second time.
