This is gonna be a long slog through some very poor "best" story choices... nevertheless we persist

In the intro, R.F. Kuang emphasizes that she doesn't like creative works that have to repeatedly push their narratives due to a lack of confidence in the characterization and world building. However, every single story so far feels like the authors are restating themes over and over again because they don't trust the reader. This isn't committing to the bit, it's running it into the ground.
